Understanding Organizations
What is an Organization?
An organization is a team workspace where multiple users collaborate on data pipelines. When you first sign up for Supaflow, you start with a personal organization. You can create additional organizations for different teams or companies.
Active Organization
The active organization is the one you're currently working in. This determines:
- Which workspaces and pipelines you see
- Your role and permissions
- Which billing account is used
You can switch between organizations using the organization switcher in the top navigation.
Organization Roles
Organizations have two roles:
| Role | What They Can Do |
|---|---|
| Admin | Full control - manage settings, invite members, change roles, billing, delete organization |
| Member | View organization, create and manage workspaces and pipelines |

- Click Create organization
- Enter your organization name
- Click Create
You'll automatically become the admin of the new organization and can start inviting team members.
Common Scenarios
Moving from Personal to Team Organization
When you're ready to add teammates:
- Create a new organization (or rename your personal one)
- Invite team members via the Members tab
- Assign appropriate roles (admin for managers, member for contributors)
- Team members can now collaborate on your workspaces
Managing Multiple Teams
If you work with multiple companies or teams:
- Create a separate organization for each team
- Use the organization switcher to move between them
- Each organization has independent billing and workspaces
- Your user account works across all organizations
Transitioning Organization Ownership
To hand off admin responsibilities:
- Make the new admin a member first (invite them)
- Change their role to Admin
- Verify they have full access
- You can then either:
- Remain as an admin (multiple admins allowed)
- Change your own role to Member
- Leave the organization entirely
Consolidating Organizations
If you have multiple organizations and want to consolidate:
- Choose which organization to keep
- Manually recreate pipelines in the target organization
- Invite all members to the target organization
- Once migration is complete, leave or delete the old organization
Note: There's no automatic merge - you'll need to manually recreate resources.
Best Practices
Organization Naming
Choose clear, recognizable names:
- ✅ Good: "Acme Corp", "Data Team - Q4", "Production Environment"
- ❌ Poor: "Org 1", "Test", "asdfg"
Why: You and your team will see this name frequently when switching organizations.
Role Assignment
Start with least privilege:
- New members: Start as Member role
- Promote to Admin only when needed
- Have at least 2 admins for redundancy
- Review roles quarterly
Invitation Management
Keep invitations tidy:
- Revoke pending invitations that are more than 7 days old
- Re-send invitations if needed
- Confirm with the person before inviting them
- Double-check email addresses (typos = failed invitations)
Member Offboarding
When someone leaves the team:
- Remove them from the organization immediately
- Review what they had access to
- Update any shared credentials they knew about
- Transfer ownership of their workspaces if needed
Troubleshooting
Can't Leave Organization
Problem: "Leave organization" button is disabled or shows an error.
Why: You're the only admin, or the only member.
How to resolve:
- If only admin: Make someone else an admin first
- If only member: Leaving will delete the organization (confirm this is what you want)
Invitation Not Received
Problem: Team member didn't get the invitation email.
How to resolve:
- Check they gave you the correct email address
- Ask them to check spam/junk folders
- Revoke the old invitation and send a new one
- Try a different email address if available
- Contact support if the issue persists
Can't Change Someone's Role
Problem: Role dropdown is disabled or doesn't appear.
Why: You need to be an admin to change roles.
How to resolve:
- Ask an existing admin to change the role
- Or ask an admin to promote you to admin first
Wrong Active Organization
Problem: You're seeing the wrong organization's data.
How to resolve:
- Check the organization switcher in the top navigation
- Click it and select the correct organization
